CASE STUDIES : PROPICONAZOLE
This fungicide had been used to preserve timber for several decades and is currently undergoing a renewed assessment by the Biocidal Products Committee of the European Chemicals Agency.
Protection from and exposure to carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic chemicals (CMR) is governed by labour law in France (articles R. 4412-59 to R. 4412-93) and forms a section of the general requirements for the prevention of chemical hazards.
For detailed information, click on the following link to the French national institute of research and security website (INRS): http://www.inrs.fr/risques/cmr-agents-chimiques/reglementation.html
The INRS has pronounced that all CMR chemicals be identified through an inventory of the products and work situations that present a potential risk of exposure to them. Once a CMR chemical has been identified in the work place, it must be removed and replaced wherever technically possible.
Special technical specifications now require that products used to treat timber do not contain CMR chemicals.
At KOATCHIMIE, we opted to remove propiconazole from all our formulae as of January 2019 with a view to protecting our staff, our customers and their employees. Our products are now entirely free from propiconazole.
